The texts from Audubon himself are chosen first to illustrate his approach of drawing in "My Style of Drawing Birds," and his daily life, through letters to his wife, Lucy, and one to John Bachmann, during his trips to Florida, to the Gulf of Mexico and to Labrador, while making his famous Birds of America. Printed on Main Fleurie paper made from new textile fibre, manufactured by Arches in the Vosges, specially for the book. Due to the slow cylinder rotation, the paper has a felt-like softness, very close to handmade paper.

The real pièce de résistance here is the portfolio of individual reproductions, identical to those in the text; with a printed area of up to 10 1/4 x 13 1/2 inches, on a sheet size of about 11 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches on heavyweight 300g stock, the prints can be leafed through, removed for consideration, or framed as art.

Olof Rudbeck der Jüngere (1660 - 1740) war ein schwedischer Anatom und Botaniker. Im Jahre 1692 trat er die Nachfolge seines Vaters auf dem Lehrstuhl für Anatomie und Botanik in Uppsala an. Olof Rudbeck der Ältere war ein Universalgenie des 17. Jahrhunderts. Er erfand u. a. Fischreusen, Windmühlen oder auch eine Hebebrücke und sicherte durch ein Aquädukt die Wasserversorgung Uppsalas. 1654 wurde Rudbeck Dozent der Botanik an der Universität Uppsala und legte dort den ersten botanischen Garten an, welcher später unter Carl von Linné große Bedeutung erlangte. 1660 zum Professor für Naturgeschichte berufen, war Rudbeck von 1661-70 Rektor der Universität Uppsala. Alfred Nobel ist einer seiner Nachfahren.

Das Vogelbuch Olof Rudbecks d.J. entstand zwischen 1693 und 1710 im Zusammenhang mit der großen, von König Karl XI. angeregten und finanzierten Lapplandreise. Die brillanten Zeichnungen fertigte Rudbeck für seine Studenten direkt nach frisch präparierten und heute teilweise als Prototyp geltenden Vögeln an. Frische und Schönheit der Rudbeckschen Vogeldarstellungen beruhen vor allem auf ihrer Naturnähe.

Mit dem berühmten Werk »Systema Naturae«, das 1758 erschien, legte der Schwede Carl von Linné den Grundstein für die heutige Systematik. Sein Lehrmeister in der Ornithologie war Olf Rudbeck d.J., dessen Vogelbilder in diesem Werk zu sehen sind. Zahlreiche Beschreibungen Linnés gehen auf Bilder und Aufzeichnungen Rudbecks zurück.

Für das Faksimile wurden die Bilder auf ein dem Original entsprechendes 180g/qm Papier im ständigen Vergleich mit der Vorlage in sechs bis acht Farben gedruckt, um Schönheit und feine Details des Codex' zu erhalten. Da viele Farben des Originals mit herkömmlichen Druckfarben nicht originalgetreu wiederzugeben waren, wurden spezielle Sonderfarben verwendet. Nur der Einsatz modernster Reproduktionstechnik ermöglichte das vorliegende Faksimile.
